Alternative History of Newcastle: Murder and Mayhem Talk

The talk investigates some of the most interesting violent crimes to reach the courts of the north east in the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. Meet highwaymen, rioters and husband-murderers as well as those charged with more peculiar crimes, like being tipped in a midden, and “assault with a fish”.

The talk takes place in the Harbottle Suite of The Black Gate. Doors will open at approximately 5.30pm, with the talk starting at 6pm.

Reasonably priced refreshments will be available for all your sweets and drink needs. We aren’t a licensed venue, so for this event there will be no sale of alcohol.

Newcastle Castle have put the Castle into Newcastle since the city’s beginning and we continue to be the lifeblood of our city through a rich offering of heritage, history, events and entertainment.

Open 7-days per week from 10am until 5pm, you can visit this family-friendly historic attraction, located in Newcastle city centre, to reveal the story of how Newcastle began, the reason the City got its name and to walk in the steps of the people who lived and died in the shadow of Newcastle Castle. Steeped in history this imposing Norman fortress, is a rugged reminder of Northern England's turbulent history.
