Newcastle Castle’s medieval interior and commanding views over the NewcastleGateshead Quayside make it a popular location amongst television and film crews.

Recent television productions that have utilised us as a backdrop or filming location include BBC sitcom Boy Meets Girl and publicity material for CBBC drama Wolfblood. Presenters Ant and Dec filmed linking material for Tyne Tees documentary A History of Tyneside on the rooftop of the Castle Keep.

We are equally keen to welcome independent and student filmmakers who are interested in using us as a location. If you are interested in hiring the space after-hours, please get in touch with our Events Assistant.

If you are writing a blog post or article, a selection of generic exterior views can be downloaded from the NewcastleGateshead tourism website. Simply create an account and once you download images you will be sent an email with the image credit details.

Many of the archive images on this website are from Newcastle Libraries’ Local Studies collection; established in 1884 this is the largest collection of local and family history material in the North East. View their photographic collection on Flickr and request specific permissions via their website. For any other image requests, please contact our Marketing Officer
