  • We are open 7 days a week April - October, and we close Tuesday & Wednesdays in November - March. We are open 10am - 5pm, last entry is at 4pm. You are welcome to explore the Castle Keep until 5pm but the Black Gate shuts at 430pm.

  • With your annual ticket you get unlimited entry to Newcastle Castle for a year. Your annual ticket does not grant access to any events, these tickets must be purchased separately.

  • Yes. There are two receptions, one in the Castle Keep and one in the Black Gate. Tickets will get you into both buildings, regardless of where they’re purchased.

  • The Black Gate is fully accessible with an external lift. The Castle Keep is a Scheduled Ancient Monument with several upper storeys which unfortunately are not accessible to wheelchair users.

  • No, unfortunately there is no where to park on site. However the nearest carparks are within a 10 minute walk.

  • Yes! We are next door to multiple bus stops, and a 10 minute walk from Monument metro and Central metro.

  • Booking online is not necessary, you can pay on the day. However, you must book in advance (online or over the phone) for our events.

  • Only service dogs are allowed in the Keep, but please be aware the steps are very steep and uneven.

  • Our after-hours guided tours will be advertised on the what’s on page. Sometimes our volunteers run daytime tours of the Keep, but these are on a adhoc basis and will be advertised on our social media during the day. If you would like to book a private tour please phone 01912306300 to enquire.

  • No, unfortunately we do not have the space to store luggage.

  • Yes absolutely! We always love to see the great pictures people take - if you upload them to social media please tag @newcastlecastle

  • No, we do not have roof-only tickets.

  • No, we’re neither. The castle is an independent charity, chaired by the Heart of the City Partnership.
