Ideal for Key Stage 1 pupils doing traditional tales as part of their literacy, or a general Castles topic. This workshop explores the Castle as the classic fairy tale setting in traditional stories and legends.

The workshop takes place in the Harbottle Suite in the Black Gate. This is an indoor classroom with two toilets (one accessible) and heating. It lasts approximately 90 minutes, though this can be varied if necessary to fit your needs.

Activities include:

  • The Land of Stories: We’ll create our own fairy tale kingdom and populate it with strange characters, with the children coming up with descriptions, challenges and roles for each of them.

  • The Buggane! The children will listen to classic Castle fairy tale and design their own monster, the fearsome buggane, as they go along.

  • The Lambton Worm - the children will act out the classic local folktale of dragons and knights with the help of our group leader! A lively end to the session

    Alternative or extra activities can include:

  • Storytime: For a quieter end, let our guide entertain you with more traditional tales from the North East.
